Screening and Diagnosis of Pediatric Diabetes
As is the case with adults, screening for diabetes among children is done on the basis of risk. In terms of diagnosis, one big challenge facing clinicians is distinguishing between type 1 and type 2 diabetes in youth. Although previously, it could be safely assumed that a child presenting with diabetes could be given the diagnosis of type 1 diabetes, the rapidly rising rates of type 2 diabetes among youth now preclude such an assumption.
